About Shelf Price
Shelf Price is a free daily game where you guess what everyday groceries and household items cost. It is an independent project, built to be quick, fair and fun to share.
How to play
You see an item and its size. Type the price you think it sells for, then hit Ring it up. The closer you are to the real average, the more points you earn. A daily run is seven items and is worth up to 700 points. Everyone who plays on the same day gets the same seven items, so you can compare scores with friends.
| Result | Your guess is | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Price Is Right | within 5% | 100 |
| Sharp Shopper | within 10% | 75 |
| Coupon Clipper | within 20% | 50 |
| Window Shopper | within 30% | 30 |
| Impulse Buyer | within 40% | 15 |
| Way Off | more than 40% away | 0 |
After the daily run, Endless mode keeps going until you miss by more than 40% three times. Your streak counts each day you finish the daily run.
Where the prices come from
Prices are meant to reflect a typical national average for a common version of each item, not a specific store or a sale price. For U.S. staples such as eggs, milk, bread, ground beef, chicken, bacon, bananas, potatoes, coffee, rice, flour, sugar and cheddar, we use the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics average price data (September 2026) and scale it to the pack size shown. Those items are labeled with their source after each guess.
The remaining items are editorial estimates. Prices for other countries are estimates too: we start from the U.S. figure and adjust for typical price levels and currency, and we show metric sizes where that is the local norm. Real shelf prices vary by store, region and week, so treat the numbers as close, not exact. If one looks wrong to you, please tell us.
Countries and currencies
You can play in the United States (USD), Canada (CAD), the United Kingdom (GBP), the Eurozone (EUR), Australia (AUD), Mexico (MXN), India (INR) and Japan (JPY). Your choice is remembered on your device. Each country keeps its own daily progress.
